What I saw in almost all fighting anime are that if you have strong feelings for something it translates to more power. Like it has the biggest percentage in how the person wins. Some anime even have pre-main and antagonist fight where the protagonist fails miserably and suddenly when like 3 episodes on he gains some sort of ultra mega boost with "feelings". I can get behind it when he/she has to train for the power but seriously. I mean friendships great and all but I fail to see how that affects fighting prowess. I mean no one gets a boost from having friends or caring about them, its all in the mind and body. Ah I remember the second thing I see is when the main and antagonist there almost always a training part of that arc. Like " oh you need to master this to defeat blah blah blah". And in the mean time it shows fillers like backstory, it disrupts the flow of the arc. But who am I to judge?
